Split Point Lighthouse dates back to 1891 and was run by two lighthouse keepers who lived with their families in the nearby cottages. Tours of the lighthouse run regularly. Graves of early pioneers Thomas and Martha Pearse can be found near the lighthouse Thomas died on the 9th August 1862 from hepatitis. He was buried in this grave overlooking the Ocean. His wife Martha died 10th April 1870 aged 52 years. She was buried alongside her husband. The gravesite was originally protected by a picket fence which fell into disrepair. A replica of an original bark hut that was burnt down in 1851 can also be found in Bark Hut Reserve on Inlet Crescent, just a five minute walk away. See all our recommendations
